What is the difference between a Premiere Listing
and Featured Advertising? |
|
Featured Advertising displays your web
page on the SearchSight.com home page. A
Premiere Listing displays your web page at
or near the top of the search results when a search is performed on
search terms contained on your web page.
Featured Advertising runs for a set
number of times that your web page is displayed, while a
Premiere Listing lasts for 6 months. |
|
|
Why doesn't my site thumbnail images appear exactly like my web page
appears in my browser? |
| Web pages evaluated by SearchSight.com
will have an image created of the web page as it appears at 800 x 600
screen resolution on the average web browser. Pages that use ActiveX
plug-ins, page redirection, and JavaScript for layout may have problems
with thumbnail images. |
| |
|
Can I edit my
listing or remove it altogether? |
| To edit your listing, simply
change the meta-tag information in your web page and
submit your web page again. To remove
your listing, simply place a robots noindex tag on your page and request
to have it re-evaluated, of log in to the
listing manager to delete your listing. |
| |
|
How often can I change my
listing? |
| You may change your listings
as often as you like. However, the changes will only go into effect
after your web pages are re-evaluated by one of our web crawlers.
There is no reason to submit a URL if the web pages has not changed.
If you continually submit a URL when there are no changes of your web
page it could result in the URL or domain name being banned from our
listings. |
| |
|
How many pages
from my web site should I submit? |
| The purpose of SearchSight.com
is not to link to every page on the Internet, but rather web pages that
contain unique and useful information. Web pages that contain
the duplicate information are continually purged from our listings (except
those that are premiere listings).
Submitting web page URL's that contain largely the
same information could result in the domain name being banned from our
listings.
|
| |
|
I submitted the
wrong URL, now what do I do? |
| Simply
submit the correct URL. The incorrect
URL will usually be removed automatically during a database purge. |
| |
|
How often does SearchSight.com re-index or re-crawl web pages? |
| Times vary according to how
many editors are actively evaluating web page submissions, but new submissions
and re-evaluation requests are usually performed within a few hours
of being submitted or requested. We request
that you not submit your URL to be re-evaluated more often than twice
in a 24 hour period. Additional requests may be ignored.

What
type of web pages does SearchSight.com not allow? |
| It is the intent of SearchSight.com
to present "the best of the Internet" and as such we actively strive
to only display web sites that are appropriate for general audiences.
Web sites that are considered adult only, contain hacking information,
promote racism, hatred, or otherwise contain illegal or illicit content
would not be considered appropriate for general audiences. Please
see our Terms of Service for more details.
SearchSight.com is an English-Language search engine.
We display web pages from every part of the World, but because the vast
majority of SearchSight.com users are English speaking, we only list
web pages that are primarily in the English language.
Because we index web pages according to meta description
and body text, web pages that contain only html framing information
will probably not be included in our listings.
Because of the deceptive nature of web pages that
contain automatic redirection, these pages will probably not be included
in our listings.
Web pages that contain non-English characters will probably not be included in our listings.
Web sites that post a large number of web pages just
to get higher rankings in the search listings can and will be banned
and have their listings removed.
We discourage the submission of pages that are under
construction. If a page that is under construction gets evaluated,
it most likely will become banned which would prohibit it from being
listed even after it is no longer under construction.
Please note that in any event, SearchSight.com reserves
the right to disallow any listing from any web site for any reason.

top reasons why a web page is not added to
our listings.

How can I remove my email
address from SearchSight.com's database? |
| SearchSight.com never shares
it's webmaster email addresses with third-parties. If you
would like to remove your email address from our listing database,
you may remove your email address
at any time. |
| |
|
What if there is an
error in my listing? |
| SearchSight.com gets the
text for all listings directly from the each web page. Because
of this, if there is an error in your listing, it can only be as a result
of an error on your web page. Repeat: If there are miss-spellings,
grammatical errors, missing or incorrect information in your listing,
this is a result of the same error on your web page. Please don't
ask us to edit the text, it will only revert back to the incorrect text
when your web page is evaluated again. The default
listing information comes from the first 80 characters of your web page's
title, and the first 230 characters of your web page's meta-description
tag. If there is no meta description, the first 230 characters
of the page text will be used.

|
What is 'Q'
and how can I find it for my listing? |
| A web page's Q value is
what determines how high up the listings the web page will be listed.
Q values range from 0.0 to 10.0 and you can view the Q values for web
pages by either using the listing search page
or by holding your mouse over the URL on the search results page after
a search is performed. Q is determined when
a listing is evaluated and because it is determined by human editors
and the criteria used for evaluation changes from time to time, a listings
Q can vary even it the listing itself has not changed. Premiere
listings always have a Q of 9.0 or greater.
You may find it helpful to view these tips
on how to improve your web page's Q value.

|
Can I change the
image used with my listing? |
| Yes, by changing the way
that your web page looks, and requesting that it be
re-evaluated. |
| |
|
Can I remove my email address so that I no longer receive email from
SearchSight.com? |
| Absolutely. We only
want to send email notifications to those who want to receive them!
Simply go to here and enter the
email address or addresses that you wish to remove from your listings.
In the future, if you submit a web page URL again
using this email address, you will again enable the email address to
receive notifications.
Please note: There are some special features
of SearchSight.com that may no longer be available to you after removing
your email from your listings.

| |
|
What information should I put in the Comments when I submit a URL? |
| Anything you would like,
literally! The majority of the feedback we receive regarding what
is liked and what is disliked about SearchSight.com is received through
the submission comments. If you like something on SearchSight.com,
let us know. If you don't like something or you want to see something
added, let us know that as well. Every comment is read by several
people. Because the listings are rated grouped
programmatically, categorizations and descriptions included in the comments
do not normally have an effect on listings.
|
|
|
Can I place my listing under several different categories? |
| No, each listing can be placed
under only 1 category, 1 country and 1 postal code. You may submit
different pages of your web site to different categories, but please
be aware that incorrectly categorized listings will be removed.
You may find it useful to view our
directory overview. |
|
|
The description in my listing appears
differently in a search than it does in my confirmation email, a
listing search, or in the directory. Why is this? |
| The listing description
that is displayed in the confirmation email, the listing search, and
the directory is the default description. When a keyword
search is performed and your listing is displayed, the text from
first part of the web page that contains one of the search terms is
displayed. This is not a bug, but a feature, since most people
expect to see their search terms in their search results. |
